Dr. Eoin Brazil
Eoin Brazil joined us in February 2010 and leads the Technology Transfer team. As senior software developer and consultant he will be providing solutions and services to Irish companies. Eoin has worked for nine years in various projects and technical roles in the Interaction Design Centre in UL. He studied Computer Systems at the University of Limerick where he gained a B.Sc. (hons) in 2000. He received a MSc for work on using multiple visualisation techniques and dynamic queries for browsing audio resources and received a PhD in 2009 for work on the use and design of everyday sounds for computer interfaces. His previous research has been primarily in the fields of auditory display and sonification.
Prior to joining ICHEC in February 2010 as a Software Developer, Eoin worked for nine years in various projects and technical roles in the Interaction Design Centre in UL. He worked on the Sounding Object Project (FP6), developing software to support new interactive real time sound models. This theme was continued in work on the EI basic research project "Multimodal Systems". He worked as lead software developer/interaction designer in the team that developed the Metamusic automatic music composition software for video (http://www.abaltat.com, Ablatat Muse). He was lead interaction designer and team leader for the usability facet of the EI IMS ARCS Industry Led Research project (http://www.ims-arcs.com), which explored new scenarios and prototypes for next generation telecommunication networks (NGNs) built using the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
Eoin holds the position of Irish Management Delegate with the European Action COST IC0601 Action on Sonic Interaction Design (SID) and works within this Action on the Sonification strand, as a member of its Working Group 4 - Sonification.
