Nicola, aka Nix, joined ICHEC in October 2010. As the Software Development Activity Leader, she coordinates all the Project Management activities within ICHEC. She personally manages most of the Technology Transfer projects, which require the full rigor of the PRINCE2 methodology. She was one of four Pillar Leaders in the EU-funded PRACE-2IP project, making her responsible for all the Dissemination and Training activities within the project.
Prior to joining ICHEC she studied Natural Sciences at Trinity College Dublin, specialising in Chemistry. After a brief spell as a Marketing Assistant, Nix returned to college to complete an MSc in Computer Science at Queens University, Belfast.
Since then she has worked primarily in industry in Ireland on a varying array of technologies, from middleware to device drivers. In 2002 she returned to her studies, attaining a Postgraduate diploma in Computer Games Development at Abertay University, Dundee. This led her to a two-year post at the School of Informatics, where she employed her 3D graphics and computational geometry experience to develop a 3D Brain Atlas for Neurologists. Nix joined us from EPCC, in the University of Edinburgh, where she was a Principal Consultant in the Applications Group. During her four years at EPCC she worked on a wide varies of HPC and Grid related projects including TEXT, DEISA, BEinGRID, OGSA-DAI.
