Stokes: 2.2.23 / 2.2.23+
Stoney: 2.2.22
Description
The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) finds regions of local similarity between sequences. The program compares nucleotide or protein sequences to sequence databases and calculates the statistical significance of matches. BLAST can be used to infer functional and evolutionary relationships between sequences as well as help identify members of gene families.

Additional Notes
To use NCBI-BLAST load the relevant environment module:
The software contained within the NCBI-BLAST package are mostly serial programs so they may be used in conjunction with taskfarm for batch jobs. Please refer to our tutorial - Using BLAST on ICHEC Systems - for some guidelines on taskfarming NCBI-BLAST batch jobs, and when you might consider using mpiBLAST instead.
Further information can be obtained at NCBI BLAST Home Page and BLAST help page.
