The HPCWorld consortium is a group of bodies from Europe, the US and New Zealand who are involved in the provision of high performance computing in some fashion, e.g. as a funding agency or as a HPC centre. The initiative is coordinated by CINECA, the Italian national HPC centre. The group aimed to analyse the process of the allocation of HPC resources to the research community. In doing so a number of different models were examined and a set of best practices were derived.
Drs. JC Desplat and Michael Browne from ICHEC participated in the programme and contributed to the primary deliverable a Handbook of HPC e-Science Infrastructure Allocation Reviewing, Selection and Management. While this best practice guide is mainly focused HPC it is quite general purpose and so applicable to many areas.
ICHEC is proud to have particpated in the programme and intends to remain active in the subsequent forum which aims to continue the work of the project and further develop the handbook.
HPCWorld was funded by the EU FP7 prgramme, its grant number is: RI-246711
