Ruairi studied at the University of Dublin, Trinity College graduating with a B.A.Mod in Theoretical Physics in 2012.

He then went on to take an MSc in High Performance Computing in The University of Edinburgh. Here he worked on a lattice Boltzmann code, LUDWIG, implementing a parallel Fast Fourier Transform method of solving Poisson's equation and graduated in 2013.

In October 2013 Ruairi joined ICHEC as a research associate under the European Supercomputing project PRACE. In ICHEC Ruairi first worked on developing a sudoku game for use at outreach events. This was first used at the Young Scientist Exhibition in January of 2014.
