Graduate Programmes

With the accumulation of HPC and computational science expertise within ICHEC, we offer graduate programmes a unique opportunity to avail of our resources. ICHEC is open to invitations by organisers of graduate programmes to be actively involved in teaching, as well as providing computational resources for the practical component of courses.

The

Nanoscale Simulators in Ireland (NSI) Graduate Courses

ICHEC is a partner in developing and delivering the NSI graduate courses, which provide national lectures on nanoscale simulations throughout each academic year. Our participation in 2008 involved the delivery of ten 1-hour lectures constituting a module entitled "Programming Concepts". As students subscribing to these lectures are spread across different national institutions (e.g. UCD, Tyndall National Institute, QUB, TCD, UL), the lectures were delivered using video conferencing technology.

The "Programming Concepts" module consists of ten lectures on the following topics:

  • [1 lecture] Introduction to UNIX & Basic Scripting
  • [1 lecture] Overview of Computer Architecture
  • [1 lecture] Introduction to Programming
  • [3 lectures] Software Engineering
  • [1 lecture] Parallel Computing I - Parallel Decomposition
  • [1 lecture] Parallel Computing II - Introduction to OpenMP
  • [2 lectures] Parallel Computing III - Introduction to MPI
