ICHEC is very pleased to announce that Dr. J-C Desplat has been invited to join the UK EPSRC Research Infrastructure Strategic Advisory Team (SAT). EPSRC, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, is the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences. It invests more than £850 million a year in a broad range of subjects – from mathematics to materials science and from information technology to structural engineering.

The role of SAT is primarily an advisory one, encompassing a broad range of topics, from strategic requirements, to the role of e-Infrastructure in the agency's delivery plan. SAT will also develop a forward-looking strategy to support the development of advanced software for science research in the UK.
Dr. Desplat's appointment is testament to his significant contributions over the years to the development of national e-Infrastructures and is a very welcome development in a week that has emphasised the growing relationships between Ireland and the UK.
