ICHEC is very pleased to report a number of successes from within its user community in both the recent PRACE Tier-1 and Tier-0 calls. The Tier-1 call better known as DECI-7 is the first PRACE call in which Ireland is participating as both a provider and consumer of resources, an important step forward in Irelands involvement in European HPC.

Through the DECI-7 call Dr. Grazia Cottone of UCD and Dr. Niall English also of UCD were awarded time on ICHEC's Stokes system, the Stuttgart HPC centre's Laki system and the JADE II system hosted by CINES in France. Stokes will also play host to Dr. Robert Best of the University of Cambridge.

In the Tier-0 call Dr. Mike Peardon (TCD), Dr. Sinéad Ryan (TCD) and Dr. Jonivar Skullerud (NUIM) are all members of a UK led collaboration. This project entitled "Pushing the Strong Interaction past its Breaking Point: QCD in the quark-gluon plasma phase" received a very significant award of  22,740,000 core-hours on the German JUGENE system.

The subsequent DECI-8 and 4th Tier-0 calls calls are now open. This will close in early January. Irish based researchers who are interested in applying to this call are strongly encouraged to contact ICHEC in advance of their application. Further details of these calls can be found here:
