ICHEC mail #14

Posted: 2005-12-14

Dear ICHEC users,

Contents:

1. Stale NFS file handle (walton only)
2. Planned maintenance session (walton only)
3. 1st ICHEC User Group Meeting (reminder)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - Stale NFS file handle
------------------------------------------------------------------------

A number of users have reported "stale NFS file handle" on Walton. This problem is as a result of a bug we are currently encountering with our GPFS filesystem. The problem generally only effects the node you are logging into and does not effect data integrity. We are currently working with IBM to arrange a software upgrade that will resolve this issue (see item #2 in this mailing).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 - Planned maintenance session (Walton only)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The user service on Walton will be suspended between 3pm Monday 19th December and 10am Wednesday 21st December. This maintenance slot is required to upgrade the GPFS filesystem to its latest version, and carry out subsequent testing. This upgrade will hopefully address a number of bugs (such as item #1 in this mailing) which have been affecting the stability of our cluster.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 - 1st ICHEC User Group Meeting (reminder)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, we would like to remind everyone that our first User Group Meeting will take place tomorrow morning (Thu. 15th) at 9.30 at DIAS, 5 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
