Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, specific purpose position as an AI Factory Antenna Resource Development Lead with the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) at the University of Galway, Ireland.
The position is available immediately, with flexibility to work from our Dublin or Galway offices.

ICHEC is Ireland’s national centre for High-Performance Computing (HPC) providing digital infrastructure capabilities and expertise through R&D engagements and skills development programmes to academia, industry and public sector organisations.
With a highly ambitious leading-edge Strategy for Advanced Computing (HPC, Data, AI, Quantum) in Ireland and Europe, ICHEC provides infrastructure services and expertise in HPC and data platforms to for computational sciences, AI, high performance data analytics, Earth Observation, quantum computing and cybersecurity across several sectors including environmental informatics, life sciences, deeptech/material sciences, urban sciences, and other disciplines.
ICHEC works in close partnership with national and international researchers, enterprises and public
authorities for joint R&D, skills development, and provisioning HPC and data services to accelerate their digital

Salary: Research Fellow salary scale €66,548 - €86,874 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding
limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Description:
Lead the development and operation of Ireland's AI infrastructure ecosystem as Resources Development Lead for the IRL-Antenna project. This is a high-impact technical leadership position where you'll coordinate teams across ICHEC and CeADAR to build, maintain, and evolve the hardware, software, tools, and skills resources that power AI innovation across Irish enterprise, research, and public sectors.
You'll oversee everything from infrastructure setup and platform engineering to performance optimisation tools and skills development materials, ensuring Irish AI users have access to world-class resources bridging local infrastructure with AI Factory France's large-scale capabilities.
IRL-Antenna connects Ireland to Europe's premier AI infrastructure network, providing enterprise and researchers with access to cutting-edge computing power, AI-optimised platforms, and expert support. We're building an AI Sandbox for development and testing, a Secure Data Environment for sensitive data, and establishing seamless access to AI Factory France's large-scale training infrastructure.
Duties:
The role supports the delivery of secure, accessible and efficient HPC and data infrastructure resources for users across enterprise, public sector and academic research communities.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Infrastructure & Platform Leadership
• Coordinate setup and operation of IRL-Antenna's small-scale AI infrastructure (AI Sandbox and Secure Data Environment)
• Oversee development of software infrastructure for AI development, including MLOps, workflows, and automation
• Lead implementation of performance engineering tools and methods for AI optimisation
• Establish computing and data continuum between IRL-Antenna, AI Factory France, and cloud resources
Resource Development & Operations
• Guide platform engineering teams in building user-friendly AI development environments
• Direct development of reusable performance optimisation tools, methods, and best practices
• Coordinate with AI Factory France infrastructure team for seamless cross-border access
• Ensure infrastructure-level support for secure data management and governance
Data & Skills Resources
• Oversee setup of data management tools, policies, and access mechanisms for AI datasets• Coordinate development and maintenance of skills training materials, user guides, and handbooks
• Work with data stakeholders to support IRL-DataSpaces co-development
• Ensure all resources align with customer support service requirements
Team Coordination & Strategy
• Lead cross-functional teams spanning ICHEC and CeADAR
• Work closely with Support Services Lead to align resources with service delivery needs
• Collaborate with Linking & Networking Lead on cross-border infrastructure integration
• Engage Associated Partners for resource inputs and requirements
• Prepare periodic deliverables documenting infrastructure, software, and resource development
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Essential Requirements:
1. Degree (Level 8) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master's/PhD preferred) with 10+ years relevant full-time post primary degree research/industry experience
2. 7+ years in technical leadership roles managing infrastructure, platforms, or DevOps teams
3. Proven experience coordinating multi-disciplinary technical teams
4. Strong knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure requirements and platforms
5. Experience with HPC environments, cluster management, or cloud infrastructure
6. Understanding of MLOps, CI/CD, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
7. Track record delivering complex technical projects on time and to specification
8. Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
Desirable Requirements:
1. Experience with GPU-accelerated computing and AI-specific hardware
2. Knowledge of data federation, data spaces, or secure computing environments
3. Familiarity with European research infrastructure (EuroHPC, PRACE, etc.)
4. Background in skills development or training material creation
5. Experience working with French organisations or infrastructure partners
6. Understanding of data governance frameworks (GDPR, data sovereignty)
7. Project management certification or demonstrable PM capabilities
8. Experience developing user documentation and technical guides
9. Knowledge of open-source AI frameworks and tools
