WHPC Ireland Chapter

Women in HPC (WHPC) organisation aims to promote a diverse and inclusive HPC workforce to increase the participation of women and other underrepresented groups. Chapters and Affiliates fulfil this mission locally by organizing their own events workshops, and managing volunteers.

Women in HPC (WHPC) Ireland chapter is a cross-border collaboration founded by NI-HPC at Queen’s University Belfast and ICHEC at University of Galway. The HPC Nexus Lab at TU Dublin joined as a partner shortly thereafter. The current committee consists of Katie O’Connor (ICHEC), Zara Birch (NI-HPC), Tania Malik (TU Dublin) and Buket Benek Gursoy (ICHEC).

The chapter was established to extend the mission of WHPC across the entire island of Ireland. As women remain highly underrepresented in the Irish HPC community, our aim is to promote greater participation and visibility of women and underrepresented groups in the field. We work toward this goal by:

  • empowering women and underrepresented groups within the sector
  • celebrate the achievements of women and underrepresented groups
  • organising networking events in the HPC sector across industry and academia
  • promoting links with other women in technology groups across Ireland
  • fostering a community of support, knowledge and best practice
  • sharing mentorship opportunities
