New ICHEC Science Council Chair

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Michael Nolan as Chair of the ICHEC Science Council. The ICHEC Science Council is responsible for assessing the scientific merit of applications from Irish researchers for access to ICHEC's national high-end computing services and is solely responsible for decisions on acceptance or rejection of particular applications.

Prof. Nolan is a Principal Scientist at Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork, where his research areas include first principles simulations of materials, surfaces interfaces and materials processing.

Prof J-C. Desplat, Director ICHEC said,

“We are delighted to welcome Professor Nolan as the new Chair of the Science Council. He was one of the very first “power users” of the first national HPC service, back in 2005. He and his research group have remained among the most active since then, generating impactful scientific output in the process. I am looking forward to a very productive engagement with the Science Council under his leadership. Congratulations Michael!”

The Terms of Reference and operation of the Science Council satisfy the requirements of PRACE for its tier-1 DECI access programme. Further details about the ICHEC Science Council are available here
