James Harrison

HPC-AI Performance Engineer

James completed a PhD in computational high-energy physics (lattice QCD) at the University of Southampton in 2019. His research involved developing methods to include electromagnetic effects in large-scale HPC simulations of hadronic interactions (such as those occurring within the nuclei of atoms).

James joined the performance engineering team at ICHEC in March 2026. Prior to joining ICHEC, he led the data engineering function at the Flowminder Foundation, building and maintaining data processing pipelines to provide human mobility insights supporting disaster response and public health initiatives in countries including Haiti, Ghana, DRC, Pakistan and Mozambique.

Outside of work, James plays the trombone in the Dublin Concert Band. He also enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, good food, travel, mathematical puzzles, and sinking large amounts of time into half-conceived artistic endeavours (often involving interesting maps).
